The leaves are turning and Halloween is just around the corner.

I don’t know about you, but I keep wondering how in the world that happened??

But it did… and I am not disappointed since I LOVE fall!!

As you know, I am NOT the world’s most gifted decorated cookie baker.. and when you have friends like I am Baker, Evil Shenanigans, and  Creative Culinary well, there is really no point  pretending,  you know??

But every now and then, I do make a  cookie that’s  a bit more “artistic” – that is  if you consider rolling cookie dough in colored sugar “artistic” – LOL!!

I have to say, I love these cookies… it always gives me a little “thrill” to make them since (a) they are really easy, (b) they taste REALLY GOOD, and (c) they are a bit festive…. and really, what more can you want from a cookie, right?

So, if you’ve got some fall get togethers coming up, or owe someone a little “thank you” these are just the thing… and if I can make them, you absolutely can too!

Witches Hats

Prep Time: 15 minutes

Cook Time: 10 minutes

Total Time: 25 minutes

Yield: about 36 cookies

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup Nutella
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 3/4 cup flour
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 - 9 0z. package Hershey's Kisses
  • plain or colored sugar for rolling

Instructions

  1. Pre heat the oven to 375 degrees. Beat the butter and the Nutella together in a large mixing bowl. Add the sugars and baking soda. Beat in the egg and a vanilla. Add the flour and mix until thoroughly combined. If the dough is sticky, refrigerate for 30 minutes before rolling into balls.
  2. Shape the dough into 1 inch balls and roll in sugar. Place dough balls about 2 inches apart on a parchment lined cookie sheet. Using the heel of your hand, slightly flatten the cookies. Bake for 7 to 9 minutes. Remove sheet from oven and top each cookie with a Hershey's kiss. Return cookies to the oven for 1 - 2 minutes until Hershey's kisses are slightly glossy but not melted.
  3. Remove sheet pan from oven and cool.

OK, these are simple and adorable too and I’m so happy you did not roll the top of the witches hat inside the dough or I would have to hunt you down. :)

Really a fun and EASY holiday treat that I might just have to make even!

LOL!!! Definitely not my style – a fun twist on the traditional peanut butter blossom cookie!

Love the look of these, and the nutella in the recipe sounds like a great addition. Gotta try these!

Cookies don’t have to be fancy to look adorable and taste great. I know my kids would happily gobble these up.
